While
school buses have an excellent safety record in terms of accidents, the
black smoke coming out of the tailpipe is endangering our kids in a
different, but just as significant way. Millions of children are exposed to
toxic soot and smog-forming pollutants as they travel to and from school.
Diesel pollution has been linked to increased asthma rates, missed school
days, hospitalizations, chronic bronchitis, heart disease, cancer, and even
premature death.
