RE: Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) Amendment

Dear

As a citizen in your district I urge you to support improvements to the Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) program embodied in Senator Robert M. Tomlinson’s Senate Bill 255.  The proposed expanded scope of technologies and fuels eligible for rebates under SB255 is a critical step toward market transformation, job creation, pollution reduction and efforts to displace petroleum consumption in Pennsylvania.

Additionally, SB 255 includes a 5¢/gallon rebate to alternative fuel producers. Encouraging renewable fuel manufacturers to locate in our state will help reverse the Commonwealth’s energy trade deficit and help position Pennsylvania as a leader in this emerging field. This incentive will be passed on to consumers, making alternative fuels more affordable and thereby encouraging their proliferation.

Lastly, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh ranked 4th and 18th, respectively, in the Environmental Defense’s recently released air quality report.  The ranking takes into account where the worst air quality affects the greatest number of children, and mobile emissions is a major factor in the equation.  If SB255 passes, there will be funding to help school districts replace dirty diesel buses with alternative fuel buses and advanced technologies that will help our children breathe easier.

Based on these factors, I ask you to vote in favor of SB255 and support clean transportation options for a healthier, more secure Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,
